In-text-exercises on As and Ks
Exercises 17.1, 17.2, 17.3, 17.4.
Read about thioacetals (p. 648 and 649) and solve exercise 17.6.
Note that 17.6 presents a great strategy for making large rings from
smaller fused systems!
Take a good look at exercise 17.8. Part (a) is easy and there is
nothing to it.
Parts (b) and (c) are very instructive.
Check out the examples of the Wolff-Kishner Reduction on pages 655 and
656 and look at exercise 17.9.
The Wittig synthesis of alkenes is very important. Study exercises 17.10
- 12.
Selected Problems to Chapter 17
Problem 1. Pay attention in particular to steroechemical
descriptors.
Problems 2 and 3 nicely combine spectroscopic analysis and
conjugation
length effects on UV/Vis spectra. A good exercise to study UV/Vis.
Also do problem 15 in this context.
Problems 4, 5 and 8 are too easy! No more than 2 minutes for each part.
Problem 6 is very easy as well. Just talk about it with your study
partner.
Skip problem 10.
Exercise writing mechanisms with problems 11 (very nice) - 13.
Problems 14, 16, 19 and 20 review basic reactions. Just talk about these
briefly with your study partner.
Review migratory aptitudes with problem 22.
Review synthesis with problems 17, 18 and 23.
